Indian Railway launched IRCTC lite for Tatkal Bookings.
This site was internationalized to facilitate fastest tatkal booking during peak tatkal booking hours. There were complaints of slowdown of server during this hour, so IRCTC decided to introduce the new system to facilitate easy booking. The IRCTC Lite site is operational only for two hours from 10 AM and after that it becomes the regular IRCTC e-ticketing site.
The booking of tatkal tickets on IRCTC site has witnessed a jump after the launch of this site. Earlier tatkal booking average was around 83,000 in two hours between 10 AM and 12 AM, which has now become more than 92,000 with the launching of the IRCTC Lite. It had even crossed 1,00,000 booking on ten occasions with the introduction of IRCTC Lite with the highest being 1,05,000 on February 9. according to a senior IRCTC official. All the links, images, ads, services, features which are not not required at the time of ticket booking has been removed from the IRCTC Lite site to improve the booking service during peak hours, he said.
IRCTC e-ticketing site books more than 4.6 lakhs ticket every day accounting for nearly 50 per cent of total reserved tickets on Indian Railways network.
